The city is an unpredictable mix of modern and historic. No less than three drinking establishments claim to be England’s oldest pub. None of them can back their claim up 100%, but The Bell Inn, Ye Olde Salutation Inn and the interestingly named Ye Olde Trip To Jerusalem all deliver 100% genuine Nottingham hospitality! It’s also got a thriving underground club scene, and frequently sets the trend with the latest breaking dance music styles. Summers see the festival season in full swing, and with events like the annual Splendour the emphasis is on family entertainment.
At the heart of the city is Old Market Square. The Council House with its grand designs also contains the upmarket boutiques and shops of the Exchange Parade. Fashion’s important to the fabric of city life here in the home of one of England’s favourite designers, Paul Smith. And of course when it comes to places to see it’s impossible to visit the city of Robin Hood without taking in Nottingham Castle, Sherwood Forest and the beautiful city parks and gardens like Wollaton on the university campus.
